Rome Open 2021: Jannik Sinner vs. Ugo Humbert Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Rome Open as Jannik Sinner meets Ugo Humbert in the Round of 64 on Monday, May 10th, 2021.

Will Ugo Humbert be able to get a very big win under his belt by beating Sinner, showing everyone that he should also be the talk of the town? Will Jannik Sinner finally get to play a match against Rafael Nadal on clay since their last great meeting at the French Open last year? Both players can win this match if on top of their game, but only one will make their way to the Round of 32. Who will it be?

Ugo Humbert had a tough start to the Madrid Open last week, losing in the Round of 64 in straight sets, 5-7/4-6, to Aslan Karatsev. The real issues were the problems Humbert was having on his second serve. Usually, Ugo Humbert is able to put on some solid performances by moving his opponents around the court with the speed and accuracy of his shots. However, his game style is more suited for indoor hard courts, and he is not a clay-court expert. Ugo Humbert will know that he will have to be at his best if he wants to beat the in form Italian, Jannik Sinner, who will be determined to impress in the biggest tournament in his home country.

Jannik Sinner suffered a shocking loss in the Round of 32 at the Madrid Open last week, where everyone expected him to win and meets Rafael Nadal, instead he lost to Alexei Popyrin in straight sets 6-7/2-6. Sinner was just not feeling his best there it seemed, but I am sure that the young Italian will be very determined to come out here at the 2021 Rome Open ready to give it his best shot right from the start and show everyone that he is the future of Italian tennis. Jannik Sinner has put on some strong performances at this tournament before, beating the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, and he will be determined to do the same to Ugo Humbert.

Jannik Sinner and Ugo Humbert have met 1 time before, with Ugo Humbert leading the head to head 1-0. They met in the round robin stages of the Next Gen Finals in 2019 where Humber won in 4 short sets. This victory shouldn’t really count as Jannik Sinner had already qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament and didn’t need to win, whilst Ugo Humbert had gone 0-2 by that point and wanted to win one match before he went home. Since then, Jannik Sinner has improve dramatically, and I seem him coming out here determined to win at all costs. Jannik Sinner will make his way to the Round of 32 of the 2021 Rome Open to meet Rafael Nadal.
