Rafael Nadal played a great match against a very tough opponent, showing he’s still in top form and ready to play with the best. It still won’t be easy as he aims to march on further in Madrid, and while David Goffin won’t be easy, Miomir Kecmanovic is certainly the better player as it stands, so you’d assume Nadal would regroup and take on the Belgian with plenty of confidence. Still, the aggressive brand of tennis from Goffin could prohibit Nadal from going all out. Let’s see if he can continue to dominate as he aims to move on to the last eight at the 2022 Madrid Open.
David Goffin got an excellent win over Botic Van de Zandschulp, taking him out in straights. Though it will be quite the tough one coming up against Rafael Nadal, he will have some very small chances to at least make some waves. Ultimately, it’s rather likely that Nadal will overcome him quite easily, but if Goffin can play the way he did against Van de Zandschulp, I think he just might be able to be a little bit of a challenger to the reign of the Spanish legend at the 2022 Madrid Open.
Rafael Nadal and David Goffin have met six times before, with Rafael Nadal leading the head to head 4-2. It’s a pretty good record for Goffin all things considered, but he is nowhere near that level right now, while Nadal might as well be even a little better than in a couple of those meetings a few years back. I expect the clay court dominance to continue as he aims to book himself a place in the quarterfinals at the 2022 Madrid Open.
