Dubai Open 2021: Andrey Rublev vs. Emil Ruusuvuori Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Dubai Open as Andrey Rublev (2) meets Emil Ruusuvuori (Q) in the Second Round on Tuesday, March 16th 2021.

Can Emil Ruusuvuori cause what would be the most shocking upset we could see this week as he looks to get the biggest win of his career? Will Andrey Rublev continue to dominate in ATP 500 tournaments as he looks to win his 5th ATP 500 title in a row and extend his 20-match winning streak at this level? Both players are in good form at the moment, but only one will come through. Who will it be?

Emil Ruusuvuori is a very strong player, and he is a very talented youngster who is rising up the rankings recently. Ruusuvuori came through qualifying here in Dubai and put on a very solid performance in his First Round encounter, beating the very experienced Jordan Thompson in straight sets 6-3/7-6(5). Ruusuvuori will want to build on this momentum and potentially cause the biggest upset of his career. Emil has already pushed some of the best players to their limits, such as last year at the Cincinatti Masters where he was able to push Matteo Berrettini to nearly a third set tiebreak, just falling short at the end. Ruusuvuori has a bright future ahead, but can he get a massive win under his belt by beating Andrey Rublev in the Second Round of the 2021 Dubai Open to make his name ripple throughout the tennis world?

Andrey Rublev, although he lost his only Single’s match at the 2021 Qatar Open last week, has been in amazing form since the start of last year. Rublev is on a 20-match winning streak at ATP 500 level, and he has won the last 4 ATP 500 tournaments. Rublev has also been adding some different silverware to his cabinet, winning the 2021 Qatar Open Doubles Trophy last week with Aslan Karatsev. Andrey Rublev is the most in form, and most consistent, player on the ATP Tour at the moment outside of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, and I am sure he will win at least a few more titles in 2021, helping him rise into the Top 5 by the end of the year. Will Andrey Rublev be able to win yet another ATP 500 tournament without losing a match for a very long time at this level?

Andrey Rublev and Emil Ruusuvuori have never met before, and this is going to be their first encounter. Although Emil Ruusuvuori has been playing some good tennis here in Dubai, coming through qualifying, and causing the upset in the first round, he is no where near the level required to take on a player of the level of Andrey Rublev. Rublev has only lost 2 matches this year and has won 13 matches. Along with these match wins, Rublev has won 2 titles (1 Singles, 1 Doubles). Emil Ruusuvuori will have to hope for the best performance of his life, as well as the worst performance of Rublev’s year. I find that highly unlikely. Andrey Rublev is a very determined player, aiming for his 5th consecutive ATP 500 title, and if he is to lose here, he will losr to a much tougher opponent. Andrey will win this easily.
