Djokovic vs Rublev Prediction
Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev will cross paths in a grand slam setting for the second time this season. Djokovic dropped his first set at the Championships to Hubert Hurkacz, who produced a phenomenal serving performance but fell just short to Djokovic’s own serving brilliance and mental fortitude. Djokovic took down the Pole in four sets, in an impressive display, taking the first two sets in tiebreakers 8-6 (then play was suspended due to curfew), then dropping the third set 7-5 on resumption and closing it out in the fourth with a crucial break midway through the set.
Hurkacz had one of the best serving displays that Djokovic has likely ever faced at Wimbledon, hitting the fastest serve of the event at 141 mph and consistently hitting his spots, and keeping his first serve % very high. Djokovic did well to handle him and he will definitely feel confident against Andrey Rublev. Although Rublev has been playing great grass-court tennis, Djokovic loves this matchup and has already dismantled him at the grand slam quarterfinal level this year.
Rublev himself came through a big server, taking down Alexander Bublik in five epic sets, and although I think he’ll make it tougher for Djokovic than earlier this year, the Serbian will still come through and book a spot in the semifinals of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
