Shapovalov vs Safiullin Prediction

Denis Shapovalov is into the second week after defeating Casper Ruud’s conqueror Liam Broady, the last British man left in the draw. Shapovalov lost the first set, but soon regained his composure and firepower to blast through Broady in four sets. It is the first time Shapovalov has won three matches in a tournament this season, and he’ll definitely draw lots of confidence as he seeks a spot in the quarterfinal at Wimbledon.

Shapovalov will take on Roman Safiullin, one of the most surprising names in the second week of Wimbledon. Safiullin produced a major scalp in the form of former semifinalist Roberto Bautista Agut whom he skinned in five sets to begin with. The draw opened up for him, beating a pair of undercards, first Moutet 7-5, 6-3, 7-6, and then Guido Pella 7-6, 6-4, 6-0. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Russian who before this week, had not reached the fourth round of a Major. How likely is he to trouble Shapovalov? The Canadian is a man dripping with talent but has been wildly inconsistent this season. Ironically, Shapovalov’s best tennis this year has come at slams, with the Canadian accounting for 50% of his total wins this season at the grandest stage. Expecting another nailbiter, as it always is with Shapovalov, but back him to edge this one outright.
