Daniil Medvedev and Jiri Lehecka will be meeting for the first time on the ATP Tour. It’s an intriguing matchup, but one which will likely be comfortable for Medvedev as he generally loves to use a player’s pace against them, and Lehecka will provide plenty of that.

Daniil Medvedev secured a solid win over Marton Fucsovics, an excellent player on grass in his own right, and after dropping the first set Medvedev did very well to adjust and take control of the match.

Jiri Lehecka on the other hand needed a tight five-set win to move through to the second week, almost blowing a two sets to love lead and making a very costly mistake in the fourth-set tiebreaker by challenging a call on match point and losing the point off of that. As he looks to take on Daniil Medvedev, he’ll need to recover well and come up with a game plan that goes beyond hitting the ball as big as he can.

Lehecka will need to make a lot of first serves and he’ll need to play first-strike tennis, not allowing Medvedev to get into the rallies. On the other hand, Medvedev has been able to dictate play nicely from the baseline, even mixing in some variety with net approaches and drop shots. As long as his serve is on, I expect an impressive performance from the Russian as he looks to make the quarterfinals for the very first time here at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
