Rublev vs Bublik Prediction
The championship match in Halle is upon us. Andrey Rublev reached his second final in three years after withstanding the challenge of Medvedev’s conqueror Roberto Bautista Agut in the semifinal. Just 12 months ago, Rublev was bundled out of the tournament in the first round, as his title defense ended on a whimper at the hands of Basilashvili. It was the only match he played on grass last season. But he’s atoned for that shattering defeat and the Russian has played fantastically this week, beating an in-form Tallon Griekspoor in the quarters and then Bautista Agut. Could he add the Halle trophy to his already impressive collection of ATP 500 titles?
Alexander Bublik will have a huge say in that. The flamboyant but often volatile Kazakh reached his third career final on grass after a sensational run in Halle. Bublik has pretty much swatted aside every big favorite including home hope Alexander Zverev and extended his winning record over the German to 3-1. Bublik is a maverick and a show pony often experimenting during points and attempts to win points with the fewest number of shots. On grass, he is reaping massive rewards with his unorthodox brand of tennis, catching his opponents off guard and always keeping his concentration intact throughout. But he has a terrible record in the head-to-head against Rublev. The Russian also appears to have shaken off any rust-related issues on grass. Bublik, while brilliant when everything clicks into place, is also combustible and just one moment he drops his guard, his game can easily fall into pieces. It’s been a tremendous run by the Kazakh and has every bit of momentum required to win this final, but we’ll take the more reliable Rublev to get his hands on yet another ATP 500.
