TennisSection previews the 2021 Miami Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas (2) meets Damir Dzumhur in the Second Round on Saturday, March 27th 2021.
Will Damir Dzumhur come out here confidently and put it all on the line in hopes of causing yet another upset against one of the best players in the world? Will Stefanos Tsitsipas bounce back after a brutal loss to Alexander Zverev in the Final of the 2021 Acapulco Open just last week? Both players will be looking to play strongly in the early rounds here in Miami, but only one will make their way to the third round. Who will it be?
Damir Dzumhur put on a very solid performance in the first round, beating the always tough Kevin Anderson in 2 sets. Dzumhur won 7-6/7-5 and showed us all that he still has some hope in him with regards to reaching perhaps even 70% of his best. Dzumhur has a lot of experience and he is able to move around the court with incredible speed to play some long and draining rallies. If it was not for injuries, we can be sure that Dzumhur would have still remained in the mix consistently in ATP 250 tournaments. Dzumhur will want to get an incredibly big victory under his belt here against Stefanos Tsitsipas, and I would not be shocked if it happens. Can Dzumhur get the job done in this Second Round encounter to book his spot in the Third Round?
Stefanos Tsitsipas will want to bounce back here in Miami as he is coming off of a very bad loss to Alexander Zverev just last week in the Final of the Acapulco Open. Tsitsipas entered that match the favourite, and rightly so, as he had been playing his best tennis all week compared to everyone else. Tsitsipas got an early lead and looked as if he was going to cruise through the match, however, he let the ease get to his head and stopped giving it his all. Eventually it was too late for him to regain control, and Alexander Zverev won in straight sets 6-4/7-6. Tsitsipas is an amazing player, but he has now lost all 8 of his Finals in ATP 500 of ATP 1000 tournaments. Can Tsitsipas get some momentum going by beating Damir Dzumhur in the Second Round?
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Damir Dzumhur have met 4 times before, with Damir Dzumhur leading the head to head 3-1. The last time they met was in 2019 at the Rotterdam Open where Dzumhur won in 3 sets 6-4/1-6/7-5. I expect for to be Tsitsipas’ revenge against Dzumhur in the Second Round of the Miami Open. Tsitsipas, although coming off of a tough loss, is still on top of his game this year, and he will be very motivated to finally get some big titles under his belt, as he currently has only won 4 ATP 250 tournaments and 1 ATP Finals tournament. Tsitsipas will see that this year’s Miami Open is his best time to shine as the Big 3 are not playing, and he will not let Damir Dzumhur stand in his way. Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in straight sets.
