Hurkacz will want to show everyone that he is not to be overlooked as one of the best youngsters on the ATP Tour as he has played well in 2021, winning a title along the way at the Delray Beach Open. Hubert Hurkacz knows that if he is in a good rhythm on his serve, he is very tough to beat as his opponents will have a hard time returning, and when they are able to return, Hurkacz is also able to move around the court very quickly to play the long rallies. Will Hurkacz be able to bounce back after his loss to Denis Shapovalov in Dubai as they meet again in the Third Round of the 2021 Miami Open?
Denis Shapovalov had to fight extremely hard in the Second Round here at the 2021 Miami Open, coming through a 3-set match against Ilya Ivashka (5)6-7/6-4/6-4. Denis Shapovalov will be feeling good after that win as he showed everyone that he can compete even when his back is pushed up against a wall. Shapovalov will have needed that victory to prove this to himself, and it will only give him more confidence as he comes into the match against Hubert Hurkacz. Denis Shapovalov still has a long way to go to show everyone what he is actually capable of doing, but I am sure he will want to begin doing this here at the Miami Open.
Denis Shapovalov and Hubert Hurkacz have met 3 times before, with Hubert Hurkacz leading the head to head 2-1. This is definitely going to be a very tight encounter as they have been both playing some great tennis here at the 2021 Miami Open, but I do see this going in favour of Denis Shapovalov. Hurkacz will not be as confident as could be as he lost to Shapovalov just a couple weeks ago, whilst Denis Shapovalov is filled with confidence both for already beating Hurkacz recently, and coming back from a very tough match against Ilya Ivashka. I expect this to be tight, but at the end of the day, Denis Shapovalov will make his way to the Fourth Round.
