TennisSection previews the 2022 Swiss Open as Matteo Berrettini takes on Casper Ruud in the final on Sunday, July 24th, 2022.

It is only fitting that the top two seeds will battle each other for the Swiss Open crown on Sunday. Both Matteo Berrettini and Casper Ruud have merited their places in the championship match, but who will walk away with the title? Let us take a look at the matchup in detail.
Matteo Berrettini has remained undefeated since his return from injury layoff. The Italian was extremely unfortunate to withdraw from Wimbledon after testing positive for Covid-19. His form was remarkable coming to the tournament, having won back-to-back titles in Stuttgart and Queens respectively. He has since recovered and maintained his rich vein of form on clay. Berrettini scored a fine win over two-time French Open runner-up Dominic Thiem to reach his third successive ATP final. Will he lay his hands on the Swiss Open trophy for the second time?

Casper Ruud will represent a major obstacle in Berrettini’s path. The Norwegian top seed is the defending champion at the Swiss Open and barely broke sweat en route to the final. Ruud was sensational in his semifinal match, besting Spanish left-hander Albert Ramos Vinolas 6-2 6-0. Ruud has also tightened his grip on the ATP 250s in recent seasons, and is probably the major reason he has ascended into the world’s top 10. Will he add another title to his already burgeoning trophy cabinet on Sunday?
Matteo Berrettini and Casper Ruud are currently tied at 2-2 in their head-to-head. Although their clay-court series is 2-1 in favor of the Norwegian. Ruud moves and defends very well on clay. His heavy topspin gives his shots that extra zip to outmuscle opponents. He will look to attack the Berrettinibackhand, which is perhaps the Italian’s weakest part of his game. But in recent years, Berrettini has maximized on his strengths that at times has masked up his fragile backhand. With that said, I think Ruud will meet his match on Sunday. Berrettiniis hitting the ball so crisply and his use of slice may prove problematic for Ruud to get into his strike zone.
