Nicolas Jarry became the first player to beat Casper Ruud on Swiss soil in their quarterfinal match a couple of weeks ago and that win was no fluke as he would go on to win his 3rd career title that weekend. Jarry has transmitted that good form to Paris, where he’s not only managed to win a main draw match for the first time at the French Open but has advanced into the second week of a Major for the first time. He’s hardly looked in a spot of bother although he needed four sets in beating both Tommy Paul and Marcos Giron. Ruud on the other hand knows anything less than a final this fortnight will be a massive disappointment. Having avoided the top two favorites Alcaraz and Djokovic in his half of the draw, coupled with Nadal’s absence and Medvedev’s early exit, the Norwegian is the only player to have contested two Grand Slam finals in his half. So Ruud backed by experience at the highest stage will see this as an opportunity to remain composed and serene under pressure, something Jarry will lack. Ruud is also a better mover with lightning footspeed and never-ending stamina giving him a massive edge in longer rallies. Add to the fact that Jarry’s serve is attackable in these slow conditions then there is a good chance Ruud will get back to another quarterfinal.
