Top seed Casper Ruud kept his unbeaten streak on Swiss soil intact with a 6-3, 7-5 win over American J.J. Wolf. Ruud broke Wolf’s serve twice in the match, once in the first set and the second time late on in the second set to pick up an astonishing 17th straight win in Switzerland and his ninth win in Geneva. Ruud is gunning for a three-peat this week but will need to overcome his latest hurdle in the form of Nicolas Jarry. The Chilean got a walkover in the round of 16 after his opponent Tallon Griekspoor withdrew prior to their clash. Jarry is a former finalist in Geneva, finishing runner-up in 2019 on his only visit to the event, and losing a three-setter in the final against Alexander Zverev. He’s been one of the most improved players in 2023, amassing 14 wins on clay. He loves the playing conditions in Geneva and completely served lights out against Lajovic in his opener, racking up 10 aces and not facing a single break point. Ruud is a different kettle of fish though and a benchmark at 250-level in recent years. Jarry will need a near-perfect serving performance again, but even that might not suffice.
