Madrid Open 2023: Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alexander Zverev Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2023 Madrid Open fourth-round match featuring Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alexander Zverev on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alexander Zverev Preview

Will Carlos Alcaraz get the win? Will Alexander Zverev pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have a rematch of last year’s final in a highly anticipated affair. Who will triumph and move through to the quarterfinals at the 2023 Madrid Open?

Carlos Alcaraz took down Grigor Dimitrov in impressive fashion, getting through in straight sets after a tough opener vs Ruusuvuori. His meeting with Alexander Zverev was the most anticipated match after the draw ceremony, and it has arrived. Although Alcaraz would seem like the heavy favorite considering Zverev’s injury, the German is only improving and this is his very best tournament. Alcaraz will need to be at his best if he wants to get through with no drama here at the 2023 Madrid Open.

Alexander Zverev crushed Grenier, winning in style and looking to pull off the upset over top seed Carlos Alcaraz. Zverev is not back at his best, but it’s fair to say he’s still one of the players to beat at this event. With his massive serving and versatile baseline game, he will create trouble for the Spaniard and should Alcaraz go on to win this match, this could very well be his biggest test of the tournament at the 2023 Madrid Open.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alexander Zverev Prediction and Pick

Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev have met four times before, with Alexander Zverev leading the head-to-head 3-1. Alcaraz took out Zverev in last year’s final, although Zverev was obviously not at his best due to a late semifinal finish. Zverev, however, got his revenge at the French Open over a month later. This will be an exciting rematch, but I expect Alcaraz to come through as he’s simply in too good of form and remains the clear favorite to march towards the title defense of the 2023 Madrid Open.
