Madrid Open 2023: Andrey Rublev vs. Karen Khachanov Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2023 Madrid Open fourth-round match featuring Andrey Rublev vs. Karen Khachanov on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

Andrey Rublev vs. Karen Khachanov Preview

For the second successive Masters 1000 event, Andrey Rbuelv and Karen Khachanov will put friendship on one side and battle to reach the quarterfinal of the Madrid Open. Who will prevail?

Andrey Rublev has notched two solid wins at the 2023 Madrid Open to reach the fourth round for the third straight year. He was a quarterfinalist last year, and he’ll need to beat fellow Russian Karen Khachanov who is his double partner this week. Rublev beat Khachanov in Monte Carlo in mid-April en route to his first Masters title. Can he do it again?

Karen Khachanov has been more tested in his run to the second week, dropping a set in each of his wins over Thiago Monteiro and Roberto Bautista Agut. Playing on altitude has been rather tricky for Khachanov who hasn’t quite found a perfect blend of power and placement, having a 1-5 lifetime record at the Madrid Open before this year.

Andrey Rublev vs. Karen Khachanov Prediction and Pick

Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov are tied at 3-3 in their head-to-head. Rublev has won their last two meetings including their round of 16 match at last month’s Monte Carlo Masters. Rublev has continued to assert his dominance on clay, winning 10 of his last 11 matches with the only stain coming in the Banja Luka final. It will be on his racket to keep that momentum going for at least one more round here at the Madrid Open, and he should deliver.
