TennisSection previews the 2023 Miami Masters semifinal match featuring Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner on Friday, March 31, 2023.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner Match Preview
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will see eyeball to eyeball once again, this time in the semifinal of the Miami Masters. Who will prevail?
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz ascended to World No. 1 after winning the Indian Wells Masters last week and knows he has to complete a clean sweep of the Sunshine Double to remain in top spot. Well, Alcaraz hasn’t missed a beat at the 2023 Miami Masters, scaling the four matches in Florida without dropping a set. The quarterfinal test against Taylor Fritz was not even a stumbling block as Alcaraz put the American to the sword with a scintillating performance full of hot shots and extraordinary athleticism. And for the second time in as many weeks, he will play Jannik Sinner in the semifinal.
Jannik Sinner, for his part, got the better of Emil Ruusuvuori for the fifth time in their series. Sinner demolished the Finnish power hitter 6-3, 6-1, and improved to a 12-2 lifetime record at the Miami Masters. Having lost his last two head-to-head meetings against Carlos Alcaraz, the Italian needs to deliver on Friday to put everyone on notice. Sinner will have over 48 hours of rest time when he plays his semifinal match with rain interruptions causing Alcaraz’s quarterfinal to be postponed on Wednesday.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner Prediction and Pick
Carlos Alcaraz leads Jannik Sinner 4-2 in their head-to-head at all levels. Alcaraz is seeking a third successive win over the Italian and even at this early stage in their rivalry, it might slightly begin to play on Sinner’s mind. Yes, Sinner has possibly the fiercest racquet head acceleration of any player with an equal speed of shot off both wings, but he’s a level or two behind the Spaniard. The Italian admitted following his semifinal win over Ruusuvuori he is far from a finished article and is working with his coaches to improve on multiple facets in his game, including the subtle elements of his serve. Sinner will unquestionably have a career-best year in 2023 on the evidence of his strong results and performances in the first quarter. However, Alcaraz looks far too polished this fortnight and should advance into his second Miami Masters final.
