TennisSection previews the 2021 Dubai Open as Kei Nishikori meets Lloyd Harris (Q) in the Quarter-finals on Thursday, March 18th, 2021.
Will Kei Nishikori continue to improve his game as he looks to reach his best level which we have not seen in a while due to him being out of the ATP Tour for over a year with injuries? Will Lloyd Harris be able to book himself a spot in the Semi-finals here at the Dubai Open, knocking out Kei Nishikori along the way? Both players have put it all on the line here to book themselves a spot in this match, but only one will come through. Who will it be?
Kei Nishikori put on a superb and amazing performance in the Third Round, beating the experienced Aljaz Bedene in straight sets 6-4/6-4. Nishikori has been playing some great tennis all week, having beaten the likes of Reilly Opelka, David Goffin, and now Aljaz Bedene. It is great for me, and for every tennis fan, to see that Kei is reaching the levels we know he can play at. Nishikori, when on top of his game, is one of the best players on tour and he adds so much to the game of tennis with his incredible rallying ability and determination. Nishikori will now be feeling confident in his ability to make the Final here in Dubai as this side of the draw is not as stacked as it previously was, since the departure of the No.1 seed Dominic Thiem. Will Nishikori beat Lloyd Harris to make his way to the Semi-finals?
Lloyd Harris is having a superb week here in Dubai, coming through qualifying, knocking out the No.1 seed Dominic Thiem in the second round, and beating yet another experienced player in the Third Round by beating Filip Krajinovic. Harris won in straight sets 7-6(5)/6-4 and showed that he was able to back up the biggest win of his career with yet another solid performance. Harris has now made it to the Quarter-finals here in Dubai and he will be very confident and excited coming into this encounter. However, will Harris be able to hang with one of the best returners in the game in Kei Nishikori on Thursday in what is expected to be one of the best matches of the day in Dubai?
Kei Nishikori and Lloyd Harris have never met before, and this will be their first encounter. These two players have a lot of experience on the ATP Tour and have played some great tennis here in Dubai. However, when looking at who has put on the best performances all week here in Dubai, Kei Nishikori is right near the top of the list. Nishikori’s ability to play extremely long rallies and just continue to hit the lines is incredible. Nishikori is on his way back to his best, and I do not see Lloyd Harris stopping him in this form here in Dubai. It might be a tight one as both players will be determined to win it, but Kei Nishikori should win and make his way through to the Semi-finals.
