Taylor Fritz has made easy work of his opponents thus far after a tough first round with Ben Shelton. But what is upcoming is his biggest challenge of the tournament in Jannik Sinner. Fritz absolutely loves playing here, but Sinner is a massive hitter and with the way he returns, I expect Fritz to struggle a lot more on serve than what he’s used to. Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz have met once before, with Taylor Fritz leading the head to head 1-0. Fritz took Sinner out here in 2021, quite easily en route to the semifinals that year. Both players have improved since then, but Sinner in particular has looked extremely impressive and is getting better week after week. Even if it gets very tough, I think Sinner has the weapons to outplay Fritz from the baseline and to neutralize the American’s serve to book a spot in the semifinals at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters.
