He put together a fine Australian summer, reaching an ATP final in Adelaide 2 (lost a final-set tiebreak), and went on to make the second round of the Australian Open. Yet again, he halted Andy Murray in Melbourne, winning another classic before bowing out to Tommy Paul in the fourth round. The Spaniard has not been himself since leaving Australia with just one win in three tournaments and relinquished his Qatar Open crown at his last tournament. Can he return to winning ways at the 2023 Inidian Wells Masters?
Emil Ruusuvuori has fared poorly at Tour level this year. Prior to the Indian Wells Masters, Ruusuvuori picked up only two wins outside Davis Cup competitions. But in truth, Ruusuvuori has been on the wrong end of some close matches this year, and he is bound to win them sooner if he can keep his composure and mental focus. Let’s see if he can do that against Roberto Bautista Agut.

Roberto Bautista Agut leads Emil Ruusuvuori 1-0 in their head-to-head, winning that match quite handsomely at the 2021 US Open. Ruusuvuori is a lot different from that match, with the Finn growing in ranking and cleaning up his game. The Spaniard is a great mover, but you wonder whether, at 34, he is slowly losing that yard of pace which in tennis makes all the difference.
