Holger Rune took down Barrere in a tight match, 7-6 7-6. Though it probably wasn’t his best day, what matters is he managed to get the win anyway. It certainly won’t be easy against Maxime Cressy, but I really like Rune’s game to take care of a serve and volley style. He has a big serve to help him stay out of trouble and he has an extremely aggressive and big return game that he will undoubtedly use to full effect here at the 2023 Montpellier Open.

Maxime Cressy pulled off the upset over Borna Coric, taking him out in straights. It only gets more difficult from here as he takes on Holger Rune. If he wants the win, he’s going to have to take care of his serve and play extremely aggressively so he’s taking maximum advantage of any chance he might get from Rune. Let’s see if the American can manage to make even more waves at the 2023 Montpellier Open as these two clash for a spot in the final.
