TennisSection previews the 2023 Australian Open as Andrey Rublev takes on Dan Evans in the third round on Saturday, January 21, 2023.
Will Andrey Rublev get the win? Will Dan Evans pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have the 5th seed taking on an extremely dangerous opponent. Who will triumph and move through to the Round of 16 at the 2023 Australian Open?
Andrey Rublev has been playing at a high level, taking care of Dominic Thiem in what was a tricky first round matchup, before battling past Rusuuvuori in 4 sets. It’s a pretty unfortunate draw for him, considering the quality he’s facing so early and consistently, as is evident coming up against Dan Evans, a player who has troubled him in the past and has the abilities to pull the upset. Let’s see if Rublev can hold on and book his spot in the Round of 16 at the 2023 Australian Open.
Dan Evans is a player who I suspect still has a few upsets left to dole out in his career, and it wouldn’t be all that surprising if one of them occurs here against Andrey Rublev. Although I want to bet on Andrey here, Evans is a tough matchup for him and if things get tight, Rublev might start getting frustrated and ultimately collapse. Let’s see if the Brit can make things interesting here at the 2023 Australian Open.
Andrey Rublev and Dan Evans have met six times before, with the head to head being tied at 3-3. It’s difficult to really make sense of this head-to-head, most of their matches have been played on quicker courts and there’s no real pattern for the winner. Although this match will be tight, and we will absolutely get some drama, I think Rublev’s game is a little better suited for the conditions in Australia, let’s see if he can make use of his tools and take the win for a place in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open.
