TennisSection previews the 2021 Antwerp Open as Diego Schwartzman takes on Andy Murray in the Round of 16 on Thursday, October 21st, 2021.
Will Andy Murray back up a big opening round win by getting another big win as he aims to go further here at the Antwerp Open? Will Diego Schwartzman show us his amazing return game and wear down Andy Murray? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Antwerp Open. Who will it be?
Diego Schwartzman has a very solid week last week at Indian Wells, reaching the Quarter-Finals there by beating the likes of Dan Evans and Casper Ruud along the way. Diego Schwartzman is definitely finding his form again after struggling a bit over the summer, and he will know that he can compete, albeit not at his best, in these indoor hard court conditions. Diego will know his reliance on his return game will be even higher as his serve is not as effective here, so he will know that if he is to go far here at the 2021 Antwerp Open, it will be through some long and draining matches, starting against the in form Andy Murray.
Andy Murray put on a solid performance in the opening round, beating the flamboyant and tough Frances Tiafoe in the longest 3-set match of the year, saving 2 match points along the way. Andy Murray won the last edition of the Antwerp Open in 2019 and he will want to come out here and continue to give it his best shot to give himself a chance to win it again. Andy loves these indoor hard court conditions because he is able to take the ball early and he likes to hit flat. However, this year the draw is much tougher here in Antwerp and he will have another very tough opponent to beat here in the Round of 16 as he meets Diego Schwartzman.
Diego Schwartzman and Andy Murray have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. This is going to be a tight match as both players are great returners. However, I think that with the extra advantage on the serve, as well as the confidence in himself in these indoor hard court conditions, Andy will have an advantage here. Diego will keep things tight with some amazing return games, but his serve is lacking and Murray will take advantage of that here and get himself into the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Antwerp Open.
