TennisSection previews the 2023 Australian Open as Grigor Dimitrov takes on Aslan Karatsev in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

Will Grigor Dimitrov get the win? Will Aslan Karatsev pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have a rematch of a 2021 quarterfinal. Who will triumph and move through to the Round of 64 at the 2023 Australian Open?
Grigor Dimitrov looked solid at the United Cup, playing as if he was in the 2017 Australian Open, but Dimitrov isn’t the most consistent player anymore, so it’ll be tough to make a good run here again. Aslan Karatsev will not be his favorite opponent to face because of their history, but Karatsev is not playing too well at the moment, this is likely a great opportunity for a ticket to the 2nd round here at the 2023 Australian Open.

Aslan Karatsev took out Grigor Dimitrov in 4 sets in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Australian Open. Although he isn’t playing nearly as well now, I can say Dimitrov, although clearly better than Karatsev, has the possibility of exploding in a match and losing it when he should be winning. It’ll certainly be an interesting dynamic as these two take the court at the 2023 Australian Open.
Grigor Dimitrov and Aslan Karatsev have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. We know about their first match, but let’s talk about their second. In the same year, they played a 3-setter in San Diego which Dimitrov took. It wasn’t the highest quality match, but Dimitrov was able to take out Karatsev, as we also have to take note of his injury in that quarterfinal, but it doesn’t change that there will be some fire in this match, but I have Dimitrov coming through to the next round here at the 2023 Australian Open.
