TennisSection previews the 2023 Adelaide International 2 as Karen Khachanov takes on Jack Draper in the quarterfinal on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

It will be a rematch from last week’s meeting as Karen Khachanov takes on Jack Draper at the Adelaide International 2. Will the Briton redeem himself and get his first victory over the power-hitting Russian? or will Khachanov extend his winning streak over Draper?
Karen Khachanov loves playing at the Adelaide International. Last year he reached his first Tour-level final in four years but lost to Gael Monfils. And he looks in the mood this week reaching back-to-back quarterfinals to start the year. Khachanov withstood the challenge of Swiss lefty Marc-Andrea Huesler, winning 6-4 6-4 in just 80 minutes. The Russian dropped just six points behind his first serve and broke Huesler three times from six opportunities. He has set up a rematch against Jack Draper, whom he beat so convincingly last week.

Jack Draper, meanwhile, is into his first quarterfinal of the season with a thoroughly enjoyable win over Tommy Paul. The new World No. 40 won 6-4 6-4 in slightly over an hour and a half. Draper converted three of five break points, and served at a very exceptional level, winning 88% first-serve points and now allowing Paul to dictate from his forehand. The young Briton has earned a shot at redemption at the Adelaide International as he takes on Karen Khachanov for the second time in as many days.
Karen Khachanov leads Jack Draper 2-0 in their head-to-head. Their match at the US Open last year was shortlived as Draper was forced to retire due to injury. However, Khachanov was far too polished for young Briton at last week’s Adelaide International 1. I expect Draper to get his bearings right here. That win over Paul was much-needed for his confidence and his general feel of the ball. If he continues to pummel serves well beyond 130mph, he will pose unanswered questions to the Russian.
