TennisSection previews the 2023 Adelaide International 2 as John Millman takes on Albert Ramos Vinolas in the first round on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

Will John Millman outlast Albert Ramos Vinolas at the Adelaide International 2? The Australian qualifier is chasing a rare main draw win, will it come on home soil?
John Millman withstood the challenges of Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Christopher O’Connell in the qualifying rounds to reach the main draw of the Adelaide International 2. The decision not to award the former World No. 33 a main draw wild card at any of the tournaments in the build-up to the Australian Open was baffling, to say the least. But either way, Millman has earned his spot in Tuesday’s winnable clash against Albert Ramos Vinolas.

Albert Ramos Vinolas, for his part, will jet in from Syndey after playing in Spain’s disappointing United Cup campaign. The 34-year-old lefty was tasked to salvage his country’s tie against Great Britain but lost in three sets to Dan Evans. He also lost his other singles rubber against Jason Kubler of Australia as Spain ended their bid bottom of the group. Now his attention turns to Tour-level competition, beginning with a tough opener at the Adelaide International 2 against John Millman.
John Millman and Albert Ramos Vinolas are tied at 1-1 in their head-to-head. Incidentally, both matches took place at Winston-Salem, with Millman winning their 2016 meeting in three sets and Ramos Vinolas avenging that loss last year in a straight-sets win. At the Adelaide International 2, Millman has to be favored to win. He has already scaled two rounds of qualifying without expending too much energy and should be gunning for a confidence-boosting win ahead of the Australian Open next week.
