TennisSection previews the 2021 Austria Open as Roberto Bautista Agut (2) meets Pedro Martinez in the Round of 16 on Wednesday July 28th, 2021.
Second seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut faces countryman Pedro Martinez for a spot in the Quarter-Finals here at the 2021 Austria Open. RBA has a reputation for being one of the most consistent players on the ATP Tour but has had a disappointing season so far, and till be hoping to get it back on track with a strong performance this week. He is considered one of the big favorites to lift to trophy here in Kitzbuhel, can the unseeded Pedro Martinez cause the massive upset?
Roberto Bautista Agut is the second seed here at the 2021 Austria Open and is ranked #16 on the ATP Tour. The Spaniard has been one of the best players in the world for quite some time, and is always one of the most consistent players. He very rarely gives any free points away, and wears opponents down with his relentless attacking from the baseline. His 2021 season has had mixed success, and he will be hoping to get his year back on track after a very disappointing First Round loss at the 2021 Swiss Open to Arthur Rinderknech. RBA is the big favorite to advance here against countryman Pedro Martinez, and is expected to win here without many issues.
Pedro Martinez is unseeded here at the 2021 Austria Open, and is ranked #97 on the ATP Tour. The Spaniard has had some very strong doubles results so far this year, but has been quite inconsistent in singles play. He enters this match in poor form, losing in straight sets last week to Gianluca Mager in Umag and will be hoping for an improved performance here in Kitzbuhel. Unfortunately he has been handed a very tough draw, coming up against second seeded Roberto Bautista Agut and it will take a miracle for him to get anything out of this match against his heavily favored countryman.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour and it is a relatively easy one to predict. Simply put, Roberto Buatista Agut is a much better player than his countryman Pedro Martinez, and it is very unlikely that there will be another result other than a straight sets win. Martinez does not have the firepower that is needed to hit through his experienced opponent, and I expect that RBA will wear him down, forcing him into numerous unforced errors. Martinez is a solid player and will be high on confidence after defeating Lucas Pouille in the First Round, but his 2021 Austria Open will end here as he goes down in straight sets.
