Wimbledon Championships 2021: Aryna Sabalenka vs. Ons Jabeur Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Aryna Sabalenka (2) meets Ons Jabeur (21) in the Quarter-Finals on Tuesday July 6th, 2021.

Week two is upon us here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, and we have a blockbuster of a Quarter-Final on our hands. Second seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus will face Tunisian Ons Jabeur (21) for a spot in their first Grand Slam Semi-Final. Both women have played some fantastic tennis so far here at Wimbledon and are very evenly matched. Who will get the win here and advance to the Semis here at the All-England Club?

Aryna Sabalenka is currently ranked #4 on the WTA Tour and is the second seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. While she is yet to win a major title, she has been one of the most consistent players on the Tour as evidenced by her high ranking. She has dominated at every level other than the Grand Slams, and with Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka not playing here at Wimbledon it seems like the stars could be aligning for her here. After looking comfortable in the first few rounds, she overcame the pressure of being in her first Quarter-Final to defeat Elena Rybakina in a very tough three set win. While she is considered the slight favorite here over Ons Jabeur, she should be wary of her opponent’s solid form and the fact that her game seems perfectly suited to this surface.

Ons Jabeur is seeded #21 here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and is currently ranked #24 on the WTA Tour. The Tunisian has really built a reputation of being a tough opponent to handle, and her unique style make her very hard to beat on any surface. There are not many players that more well-rounded, as she is comfortable on attack, defense and in transition, using her backhand slice to great effect. She is currently on a 10-1 grass court winning streak and the momentum that she has built sets her up nicely here against Aryna Sabalenka, who is a great player but notorious for crumbling under the Grand Slam pressure. After losing the first set to 2021 French Open Champion Iga Swiatek in the Round of 16, she maintained her composure to win comfortable in three sets. Despite being the underdog she has a great chance of advancing here.

This will be the third meeting between the two players with the head to head series being tied at 1-1. They played this year in Abu Dhabi on hard courts with Sabalenka winning in straight sets, and Jabeur winning in three at last year’s Roland Garros Championships. They both enter this match here at the 2021 Wimbledon Champions in great form, and it is difficult to choose between them. While Aryna Sabalenka is slightly favored by the oddsmakers, we are going to side with Ons Jabeur here. The Tunisian has the perfect game for grass, and Sabalenka’s all-out attacking game may prove very erratic when faced with her opponent’s versatility. I do think that this will be another three set battle, but give us Jabeur to remain cool under pressure and get the win here.
