Adelaide International 2 2023: Jack Draper vs. Lorenzo Sonego Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2023 Adelaide International 2 as Jack Draper takes on Lorenzo Sonego in the first round on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Jack Draper will be looking to pick up his second win of the new season and Lorenzo Sonego will be chasing his first win of the 2023 season at the Adelaide International 2 on Monday. The Briton fell to a routine straight-sets loss to Karen Khachanov. While Sonego was forced to retire due to an arm injury. So who will prevail?

Jack Draper went into his second-round match in Adelaide 1 against Karen Khachanov as the clear favorite. He played quite well the last time they met at the US Open last year before he retired due to injury. But this time a fit Draper could not lay a glove at Khachanov who outplayed the Briton and won in straight sets. Now Draper will be looking to find his form in time for the Australian Open in a week’s time when he battles Lorenzo Sonego at the Adelaide International 2.

Lorenzo Sonego, meanwhile, was forced to call it quits in his first match of the season at the Adelaide International 1. He trailed Daniil Medvedev 6-7 1-2 before an arm injury prevented him from continuing to play. Sonego had spurned a whopping nine set points in the first set before Medvedev prevailed. It will be interesting to see whether he has recovered to take on Jack Draper at the Adelaide International 2.

Jack Draper leads Lorenzo Sonego 1-0 in their head-to-head, beating him at the Madrid Masters last year. Draper is coming off a career-best season in 2022, and the only way is up from this point. He is on the right path to stardom provided he doesn’t get complacent. Sonego’s injury is not as bad as first feared, with the Italian hitting the practice courts on the eve of the tournament. Still, Draper should be backed to come out victorious here.
