TennisSection previews the 2023 Pune Open as Benjamin Bonzi takes on Tallon Griekspoor in the final on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

Will Benjamin Bonzi get the win? Will Tallon Griekspoor pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have two players with lots of success last year clashing early in the season. Who will triumph and claim the title at the Pune Open?
Benjamin Bonzi had a great year last season, moving up to #60 in the world, a great improvement from 2021. He has a high ceiling, and he’s shown that this week by taking out 2nd seed Botic van de Zandschulp with some great tennis. He’s been playing great all week, but it certainly won’t be easy coming up against Tallon Griekspoor in the finals. I do expect him to have what it takes though to pull off the win and claim the trophy here at the 2022 Pune Open.

Tallon Griekspoor was slightly fortunate in the quarterfinals to benefit from Marin Cilic’s withdrawal, eventually allowing him to come through to the final. That doesn’t take anything away from his level this week though which got him to this stage. Having said that, he isn’t the favorite coming into the final, and any victory for him certainly would be an upset at the 2022 Pune Open.
Benjamin Bonzi and Tallon Griekspoor have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Both players can get the win on Saturday considering neither of them has all too much experience, but whoever does win will get a big boost of confidence and the rankings will reflect that. I expect the Frenchman though to take advantage of the opportunity and claim the championship here at the 2022 Pune Open.
