TennisSection previews the 2022 Next Gen ATP Finals as Tseng Chun-hsin takes on Dominic Stricker in the Group Stage on Thursday, November 10th, 2022.
Only pride is at stake for Tseng Chun-hsin in his final group match at the Next Gen ATP Finals against the high-flyingDominic Stricker. The Swiss young gun is already qualified for the semifinals, so he can at least play without any additional pressure before then. So who will prevail?
Tseng Chun-hsin is just the second Asian player to make an appearance at the Next Gen ATP Finals. He follows the footsteps of South Korea’s Hyeon Chung who won the inaugural edition of this event five years ago. Tseng hails from Taiwan and is comfortably the country’s biggest star as far as the men’s circuit is concerned and will be keen to make a big impact at Tour level next season. So far his campaign in Milan has not gone to plan after suffering two Group stage defeats, most recently to Jack Draper in four sets.
Dominic Stricker, meanwhile, has exceeded expectations in his maiden appearance at the Next Gen ATP Finals. His talents are top notch and has already scored a number of high-quality wins over Top 50 players this season. But the 20-year-old lefty has been a little slow as compared to his contemporaries in climbing the ATP rankings. Stricker though, has done his reputation a world of good with two odds-defying wins over Jack Draper and tournament favorite Lorenzo Musetti to lead the group. He is locked in for the semifinals and will likely retain some of his energy for a much tougher assignment ahead.
Tseng Chun-hsin and Dominic Stricker have not played each other at any level. Thursday’s match at the Next Gen ATP Finals will be their first official meeting. Stricker and Tseng were the underdogs in this group. But the Swiss has served up some of his best tennis this week, playing tiebreak sets and winning in clutch moments. He will be the favorite here, and you can bet he will be aiming to keep that momentum going.
