Kalinina beat Beatriz Haddad Maia in the longest match of the season, lasting just 19 minutes shy of four hours. It was a highly satisfying win but an emotional one too with the Ukranian breaking down in tears at the end and admitting to not feeling her legs. Fatigue could be a factor here given Kalinina’s fitness record, but at the same time, Kudermetova is in that territory where she is not giving away too many points on serve and is just overall playing solid baseline tennis, crediting her positive mentality to matches being the reason for her turnaround in form. Back the Russian to edge this one.
