TennisSection previews the 2022 Basel Open as Carlos Alcaraz takes on Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round on Wednesday, October 26th, 2022.

After surviving a first-round scare against Jack Draper, Carlos Alcaraz will look to kick on and avoid a potentially drama-ridden match against Botic van de Zandschulp. The World No. 1 is chasing a sixth title in 2022 at the Basel Open. How will he fare in his second-round match?
Carlos Alcaraz was pushed to the limits and displayed his powers of recovery in his opening match at the Basel Open. The Spanish teenage sensation is playing the Swiss Indoors for the first time in his career, but ensured those watching will have a lifetime of memories. There were two sides of Alcaraz in his performance against Draper. The first is that he is far from a finished article. And the second is that regardless of the scoreline, you simply cannot count him out. He recovered from dropping a horrible first set and won 3-6 6-2 7-5.

Botic van de Zandschulp was also involved in his own three-set tussle against Adrian Mannarino at the Basel Open. In the longest match of the day and a match of very few margins, it was the unseeded Dutchman who edged the Frenchman, securing one more break of serve than his opponent to win 6-4 4-6 6-4 in two hours and 52 minutes. Van de Zandschulp will attempt to reach his sixth quarterfinal of the season, but faces the ultimate test against the top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz.
Carlos Alcaraz leads Botic van de Zandschulp 1-0 in their head-to-head. Alcaraz won their solitary meeting at the 2021 Australian Open in straight sets. The young Spaniard eradicated himself from his last defeat in Astana and secured a very impressive win against the dangerous Jack Draper in his opening match at the Basel Open. Van de Zandschulp is coming off a grueling battle against Mannarino and it is unlikely he will have a lot in the tank to combat the fast-footed Alcaraz.
