TennisSection previews the 2021 Dubai Open as Andrey Rublev (2) meets Aslan Karatsev in the Semi-finals on Friday, March 19th 2021.
Will Andrey Rublev be able to make his 5th consecutive ATP 500 Final in the hopes of winning the tournament once again and make even more history? Will Aslan Karatsev be able to make his first Final of 2021 and look to show he is not just a one-tournament wonder here in Dubai? This is going to be a big clash between two players who are in great form at the moment, but only one will make their way to the Final. Who will it be?
Andrey Rublev cruised through Marton Fucsovics in the Quarter-finals, beating the Hungarian yet again. They met only 2 weeks ago in the Final of the Rotterdam Open where Rublev won in straight sets. It was the same story here in the Quarter-finals as Andrey Rublev won the match in 2 sets, 7-5/6-2. Rublev is just on top of everyone and anyone at the moment in ATP 500 tournaments, showing us all that he is definitely one of the best and most consistent players of the year, if not the best outside of Novak Djokovic in 2021. Rublev will be very determined to make his way past Aslan Karatsev in this Semi-final encounter as he looks to win his 24th consecutive ATP 500 match and make his way to the 2021 Dubai Open Final. Can the in form Russian get the job done here?
Aslan Karatsev was able to beat the very in form young Italian, Jannik Sinner, in 3 sets (5)6-7/6-3/6-2, coming back from a set down, in the Quarter-finals in a match where he showed great composure and tempo. Karatsev broke through this year at the age of 27 and he has been playing some great tennis all tournament, and he will want to make his yet another late stage of a tournament in 2021. Karatsev is coming off the Doubles title victory at the Qatar Open where he won with his opponent Andrey Rublev. The Russian is one of the best players on the ATP Tour at the moment, and I am sure that he will be within the top 30, if not the top 20 by the end of the year. How will Aslan Karatsev fare against one of the most in form players on the ATP Tour at the moment in Andrey Rublev?
Andrey Rublev and Aslan Karatsev have never met before, but I am very sure they know each other’s game inside out as they have trained plenty together. Just last week they won the Qatar Open Doubles Title in great fashion and proved to be a very solid partnership. Here at the Dubai Open, both players are on top of their game both physically and mentally and I am sure we will finally get this dream matchup to play out in full. Karatsev definitely will have the opportunity to win this one if he is on top of his game and Rublev is a bit underwhelming, however, I just do not see him getting the job done against Andrey.
Andrey Rublev is on top of everything at the moment, and this is his time to shine and get himself to his 5thconsecutive ATP 500 Final. Aslan Karatsev will make this a tight match, but at the end of the day, Andrey Rublev will win this match with his incredible power and precision around the court.
