US Open 2022: Andrey Rublev vs. Cameron Norrie Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 US Open as Andrey Rublev takes on Cameron Norrie in the Round of 16 on Monday, September 5th, 2022.

Will Andrey Rublev get the win? Will Cameron Norrie pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where power meets stability as these two clash for a spot in the last eight. Who will triumph and move through to the quarterfinals at the 2022 US Open?

Andrey Rublev won an absolutely epic contest over Denis Shapovalov, edging him out 6-4 2-6 6-7 6-4 7-6, in 4 hours of brutal, aggressive play. It was a very encouraging match for Rublev, who is now back into the top 10 in the ATP live rankings. Cameron Norrie isn’t much easier, but I really like this matchup for Rublev on this court. Norrie hasn’t looked that impressive in terms of his play, and on a quick court, the consistency Rublev has shown this week gives me a lot of hope for his level here at the 2022 US Open.

Cameron Norrie took down Holger Rune in a straight forward match to book a meeting with Andrey Rublev, while it won’t be an easy match by any means, and it will be an uphill battle for the British No. 1, Norrie has some things to be happy about here. Rublev’s legs may be a little spent after his contest, and if Norrie is really able to extend the rallies long enough, I think he can mentally frustrated Rublev, but it’ll be one hell of a contest as these two fight for a spot in the last eight at the 2022 US Open.

Andrey Rublev and Cameron Norrie have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Their first meeting came on an indoor hardcourt in 2020, with Rublev unsurprisingly bashing him, but their second meeting came in San Diego in 2021, with Norrie winning in 3. Now, that court did play quite slowly, and Rublev is playing some great tennis right now, so that meeting doesn’t hold too much significance for me as I expect Rublev to take this one and book his place in the quarterfinals at the 2022 US Open.
