Jannik Sinner had to fight hard on his 21st birthday, needing 3 sets and 2 tiebreakers to edge out Thanasi Kokkinakis in over 3 hours. If he wants to take down Miomir Kecmanovic, he’ll have to jump up a couple notches in level, as the Serb will present many challenges from the back of the court, but I think the Italian has it in him to clutch this one out as he looks to move on to the last 16 at the 2022 Cincinnati Open.

Miomir Kecmanovic got a great win over the Montreal champion in Pablo Carreno Busta, taking him down 1-6 7-5 7-6 to book a spot in the 2nd round. It’s not getting any easier though as he faces Jannik Sinner, if he wants a shot at this one, he’ll have to hope the Italian isn’t feeling all too well, or else I suspect he’ll be in for a rough time on these quick courts. He’ll have to serve perfectly, something Kokkinakis was able to do very well, otherwise I don’t foresee him having too much of a say in the end as to who will walk away from this one here at the 2022 Cincinnati Open.

Jannik Sinner and Miomir Kecmanovic have met twice before, with Jannik Sinner leading the head to head 2-0. Their two meetings came in 2019 and 2021, with both meetings on hard courts. Although neither match was particularly easy, Sinner is a far better player now and will be the dominant presence on the court, if he wants to win this one though, he’ll really have to step it up and find his balance here at the 2022 Cincinnati Open.
