TennisSection previews the 2021 Estoril Open as Denis Shapovalov (1) meets Corentin Moutet in the Second Round on Thursday, April 29th, 2021.
Will the very passionate Frenchman, Corentin Moutet, be able to come through yet another very tough match here at the 2021 Estoril Open? Will Denis Shapovalov get some more strong minutes on clay before the big tournaments begin next week? Both players can win this match when they are on top of their game, but only one will make it to the Quarter-finals. Who will it be?
Corentin Moutet came through an extremely tight First Round match here at the 2021 Estoril Open, beating the American Marcos Giron in 3 sets 6-4/(7)6-7/6-4. Corentin Moutet is a good player, and is a very passionate one as well, always giving it his all whether he is winning or losing. However, Moutet is most times at a disadvantage when entering a match as he does not have a big serve, and has to heavily rely on his groundstroke game, which can very from match to match. Here at the 2021 Estoril Open, he has already come through a very scrappy match, and he will have to ensure he’s at his best for his Second Round match against Denis Shapovalov.
Denis Shapovalov will be looking to bounce back after his tough week at the office last week at the 2021 Barcelona Open where he lost in the Third Round to his friend, and fellow Canadian, Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets easily. Denis Shapovalov seems to be continuously struggling with left shoulder injuries as he uses that arm continuously for both his massive forehand and backhand. Denis Shapovalov will have hopefully gotten some treatment over the last week to ensure his body is ready to fight, but he will also know that he should not put everything on the line if it is going to cause further damage, especially in such a small tournament, against a lesser opponent in Corentin Moutet.
Denis Shapovalov and Corentin Moutet have never met before, with this being their first match on the ATP Tour. Although Corentin Moutet is a fighter, and was able to come through a tight match in the first round of the 2021 Estoril Open, I do not see him beating a Top 15 player. Denis Shapovalov will have rested and made sure his shoulder is ready to go, and I expect a lot of flamboyant points and rallies from the Canadian. This match will be done in straight sets in my opinion as Denis does not like to waste unnecessary time on court.
