TennisSection previews the 2022 Halle Open as Daniil Medvedev takes on David Goffin in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, June 15th, 2022.
Will Daniil Medvedev get the win? Will David Goffin pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have a contrast in styles in adverse conditions for both players. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Halle Open?
Daniil Medvedev managed to make the final at the Libema Open, but came up very short in the final against a player who was at the time ranked outside of the top 200. Despite his coronation as the World No. 1 for a 2nd time in his career, he’s really been quite out of sorts since the Australian Open final. Daiv Goffin is no easy opponent, and unless Medvedev takes his game back to where it was, it’s going to be a tight one, let’s see what the World No. 1 can do here as he aims to move on at the 2022 Halle Open.
David Goffin has been playing some solid tennis as he aims to come back to the top of the ATP, grass is a great surface for him, as is every surface, and this will be an amazing shot at a win over a No. 1 for him. While Daniil Medvedev is definitely weakened, he will still be a brutal competitor, Goffin isn’t the most consistent nowadays as he’s been making a long-awaited comeback from injury, and for him to be able to progress further, he’s going to have to play all out as he aims to reach the Round of 16 at the 2022 Halle Open.
Daniil Medvedev and David Goffin have met three times before, with Daniil Medvedev leading the head to head 2-1. Their first meeting came at the AO in 2019, with Medvedev winning in 3. Their 2nd came at Wimbledon, with Goffin winning in 5! Then in the final of Cincinnati, Medvedev once again in 2. While Medvedev is still a clear favorite for the match despite the results of last week, Goffin has taken him out before in Wimbledon, albeit before his rise to fame on the ATP Tour. Let’s see what these two brilliant shot makers can bring as they clash at the 2022 Halle Open.
