Diego Schwartzman stormed back against Jaume Munar from 2 sets to love down, winning the last 3 sets 6-2 6-2 6-2. He played great in the end, and he’s looking to progress further and further here at the French Open. Grigor Dimitrov will be a tough battle, but he is definitely the favorite and superior clay courter. It’s a tough draw, with Schwartzman making the semifinals in 2020, the quarterfinals in 2021, and now even if he gets through this, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the 4th round, where he’ll likely drop down in the rankings. Let’s see what the Argentine can do here at the 2022 French Open.
Grigor Dimitrov has been flawless all tournament, no other words for it. He doesn’t love the clay, but he knows what he’s doing anyhow and is most certainly a contender coming up against Diego Schwartzman. Schwartzman has had great results at Roland Garros, and I definitely favor him in best of 5, where I think it will go the distance. Let’s see if Schwartzman can win back to back 5 setters and book his spot in week 2 of the 2022 French Open.
Diego Schwartzman and Grigor Dimitrov have met four times before, with Grigor Dimitrov leading the head to head 3-1. Their first 3 meetings aren’t too relevant, and Dimitrov was in way better form while Schwartzman was nowhere near his level today when they played off the clay in 2016 and 2017. They did meet in Madrid this season though, with Dimitrov wiping the court with Diego. It was Madrid, a much different court than this one, but will it be something to consider as the Argentine looks to make the second week for the 3rd straight time with a win over Grigor Dimitrov at the 2022 French Open.
