TennisSection previews the 2022 French Open as Carlos Alcaraz takes on Sebastian Korda in the Round of 32 on Friday, May 27th, 2022.
Will Carlos Alcaraz get the win? Will Sebastian Korda pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have an anticipated match in a gripping next-gen matchup. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 16 at the 2022 French Open?
Carlos Alcaraz played an unbelievable match today, not in terms of his usual level, which was much lower. The match in itself however was crazy, a 4h30 battle where he saved a match point. He made 74 unforced errors, an unacceptable number if he wants to go as deep as he was projected to. Sebastian Korda will be a brutal match, and after such a long battle and such a low level, he will have to improve if he wants to win, as unbelievable as it is to say here at the 2022 French Open.
Sebastian Korda played a great match on the other hand, taking out Richard Gasquet in straights. While Korda is not the favorite by any means, he definitely has his chance here. We all know what happened in Monte-Carlo, and if Korda maintains his level, which isn’t even as high as he can go, then he will take the match if Alcaraz doesn’t step it up. It’s a mark of a champion to win on your worst days, but it’s rather difficult to know if Alcaraz can step it up in the best of 5 at the 2022 French Open.
Carlos Alcaraz and Sebastian Korda have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Their first meeting came at the Next Gen Finals in an indoor hard court. Their last meeting was a tightly contested match in Monte-Carlo, where Korda took out Alcaraz after he had won Miami. Korda can definitely roll with Alcaraz, he has a brilliant two hander and a lot of variety, he can definitely trade blows from the back of the court, and the fact is that Alcaraz looked all out of sorts today, making an incredible amount of unforced errors especially off of his backhand wing. Alcaraz might have played some unbelievable tennis this season, but Korda has looked more solid, and while it’s very possible Alcaraz can regroup, both players will go into this match knowing the circumstances. Let’s see what kind of show these two can put on for us as they clash for a place in the second week of the 2022 French Open.
