TennisSection previews the 2022 Rome Masters as Novak Djokovic takes on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals on Friday, May 13th, 2022.
Will Novak Djokovic get the win? Will Felix Auger-Aliassime pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have the best player in the world taking on a tough test in what promises to be an exciting matchup. Who will triumph and move on to the semifinals at the 2022 Rome Masters?
Novak Djokovic took down his old rival Stan Wawrinka very easily, not really having to lift too much of a finger in the match to take it 2 and 2. Still though, there were a couple of signs that he wasn’t at his very best, but he is looking to be in way better form right now than he was even a couple of weeks ago. Felix Auger-Aliassime will be a tough opponent, he can blow his opponents off the court and I think he’ll surprise Djokovic, but ultimately I have little doubt that the World No. 1 won’t come through and move through to the semifinals yet again at the 2022 Rome Masters.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is in great form right now, really asserting himself as a guy who clearly has the potential to be a consistent player week in week out, now reaching the quarterfinals of Madrid and Rome on his least favorite surface. Novak Djokovic, well, there’s no tougher opponent for him. Djokovic loves pace and he will love the way FAA plays, especially if FAA sprays some errors his way. I do think the sheer power of the FAA serve and the brutal baseline game he possesses can put the Serbian superstar in at least some sort of trouble as he aims to pull off the upset for a spoti n the last four at the 2022 Rome Masters.
Novak Djokovic and Felix Auger-Aliassime have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s surprisingly a first ever meeting between these two in a very exciting matchup. I feel like the matchup here heavily favors Djokovic, but in fact, on the clay the pace that FAA uses to dictate play is minimized, forcing him to get into the longer rallies and really challenge Djokovic. I think that he definitely won’t be able to do it to perfection and win the match, but he can most certainly put up a fight against Djokovic as he aims to once again book a spot in the last four at the 2022 Rome Masters.
