Madrid Open 2022: Rafael Nadal vs. Carlos Alcaraz Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Madrid Open as Rafael Nadal takes on Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals on Friday, May 6th, 2022.

Will Rafael Nadal get the win? Will Carlos Alcaraz pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament taking place, it’s the Spanish veteran coming up against the Spanish youngster, with both players among the best in the world, it should be one brutal clash as they come to a head. Who will triumph and move on to the semifinals at the 2022 Madrid Open?

Rafael Nadal pulled off an unreal win over David Goffin, taking him down 6-3 5-7 6-7 (11-9), saving 4 match points in the 3rd set tiebreaker, asserting himself as the mental giant he is and looking to continue battling for a place in the semifinals at home. Coming up against Carlos Alcaraz will be one hell of a contest, while Nadal will always be the favorite, this match could go either way, especially if Nadal is a little sloppy like today. In the end though, the Spanish matador always seems to find his way and I expect him to do so here as he aims to take down the apprentice at the 2022 Madrid Open.

Carlos Alcaraz didn’t have it so easy himself against Cameron Norrie today, needing 3 sets to set up a meeting with Rafael Nadal. Alcaraz plays a very aggressive brand of tennis, great for the quicker courts in Madrid, but Nadal’s defense and brutal clay offensive play with the forehand is unparalleled. If Alcaraz wants to take this one, he will have to go for all his shots, and he’ll have to hit winner after winner, because Nadal will not give him an inch as Alcaraz aims to stun Nadal and set up a potential meeting with World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals at the 2022 Madrid Open.

Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz have met twice before, with Rafael Nadal leading the head to head 2-0. Their first meeting came here in Madrid, last year. Alcaraz stood no chance in that match, and it’s incredibly irrelevant to todays match, with Alcaraz improving tremendously. He’s even gotten better since Indian Wells, where they met in the semifinals with Nadal just edging him out in one of the contests of the year. That match was 50/50 as well, and with both players looking to get fired up and fight to the max of their abilities, we’ll have to see who comes out on top here at home. I don’t think it’s just quite time for Alcaraz yet though to be allowed to defeat Nadal in Spain, he’s a living legend and arguably the best player in the world as he aims to set himself up to fight for a spot in the final at the 2022 Madrid Open.
