Madrid Open 2022: Rafael Nadal vs. Miomir Kecmanovic Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Madrid Open as Rafael Nadal takes on Miomir Kecmanovic in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, May 4th, 2022.

Will Rafael Nadal get the win? Will Miomir Kecmanovic pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have the player of the year and the Spanish legend returning to tennis on the red clay against a red hot opponent looking to pull the match of his life. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Madrid Open?

Rafael Nadal is coming back from a new injury with his ribs, after the legendary start to the season, most noticeably his record breaking major victory. To return against Miomir Kecmanovic is a brutal task, but Nadal is still the clear favorite and looking to get it done in front of his home crowd. Kecmanovic can play a solid game to take on Nadal, he hits the ball big and flat when he wants to, which is something Nadal generally dislikes, let alone on the faster conditions in Madrid. Let’s see what the Spaniard looks like as he aims to book his spot in the Round of 16 at the 2022 Madrid Open and get his campaign off to a good start.

Miomir Kecmanovic took down Bublik in a relatively tight match looking at the scoreline, but seeing as Bublik serves quite big, it was still relatively routine for Kecmanovic. The Serbian next-gen star made a stunning zero unforced errors, showing perhaps he can compete with the technically most consistent player of all time in Rafael Nadal. To face the living legend at home will be a daunting task, but one Kecmanovic will take on with all his power as he aims to somehow find a way at the 2022 Madrid Open.

Rafael Nadal and Miomir Kecmanovic have met once before, with Rafael Nadal leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came a couple of years ago, with the winner unsurprisingly being Nadal. Kecmanovic has improved a lot since then as is evident by his results as of late, but to take down Nadal is too big of an ask as of now. Seeing as Nadal is returning off injury and likely isn’t 100%, and with the form he’s in, I expect him to push Nadal and to fight hard, but in the end Rafa will be too tough of a player as he aims to kick off his campaign to a flying start at the 2022 Madrid Open.
