TennisSection previews the 2022 Serbia Open as Novak Djokovic takes on Andrey Rublev in the Final on Sunday, April 24th, 2022.
Will Andrey Rublev cause the upset and show us that he is ready to get his 11th career title? Will Novak Djokovic come out here and prove to us that he is back and ready to finally get his game going again? Both players have played well this week, but only one will lift the trophy on Sunday at the 2022 Serbia Open. Who will it be?
Andrey Rublev has had a good week at the 2022 Serbia Open, dominating against most of his opponents to book his spot in the final. The only player he struggled against was against Lehecka in his opening match when he was getting used to the conditions here. However, after he tied the match at 1-1, he dominated and has not looked back since. Rublev is a hard player to beat in these conditions because he is a great mover and he has a lot of firepower meaning he returns everything with interest. This will help him in most clay tournaments as we have seen in the past. However, he knows that he will be alone as the crowd will be for Novak Djokovic as he now enters the Final of the 2022 Serbia Open.
Another day, another Novak Djokovic comeback win. It has been the story of the week so far for Novak, being under pressure from the get go in all of his matches, losing the opening set, and then getting the motivation going and getting a great win under his belt. This is good for the Serb because every match on court is good for him at the moment. However, you do have to wonder when will he get bit from making such slow starts in matches? Novak Djokovic cannot afford to let his guard down again, especially as he now meets Andrey Rublev at the 2022 Serbia Open.
Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev have met 1 time before, with Novak leading the head to head 1-0. They met towards the end of last year at the ATP Finals where Djokovic cruised in straight sets. Although Novak won that match, he was playing great tennis back then before his struggles in 2022. Here at the 2022 Serbia Open, Novak will have a huge factor on his side, the crowd. The question is whether Andrey can manage the atmosphere and the crowd not giving him much. Novak will be very happy with the progress he made this week, and there are definitely some holes in his game still. Having seen the Russian play this week, I think he has it within him to make Novak pay in this match, and cause the upset to win his 11th career title at the 2022 Serbia Open.
