Since he reached the Qatar Open Final a few months ago, Nikoloz Basilashvili has not had it going his way on the ATP Tour, going 1-3 in his last 3 tournaments. The Georgian knows that he is the type of player to be very streaky, so it is hard for him to get out of a slump at times. However, with the start of the clay court season here at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Nikoloz Basilashvili can get things back on track if he is at his best physically and mentally. However, he has a very tough opponent unfortunately right from the start in Grigor Dimitrov.
Grigor Dimitrov played very well in his last few tournaments, especially at Indian Wells where he reached the Quarter-Finals where he eventually lost to Andrey Rublev. On his day, Grigor Dimitrov is extremely hard to break down as he has a superb forehand, and his slice backhand can really hurt his opponents and their patience. However, coming onto clay it will be a bit of an adaptation right from the start, but I am sure that Dimitrov will know that his opponent, Nikoloz Basilashvili, is going to be having the same adaptation at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters.
Grigor Dimitrov and Nikoloz Basilashvili have met 1 time before, with Grigor Dimitrov leading the head to head 1-0. They met 5 years ago in Sofia where Dimitrov cruised in straight sets. However, since then, they have been in similar situations on the ATP Tour, having amazing weeks at times, but then being absolutely destroyed in over weeks. This match is really going to come down to who adapts and finds their rhythm the fastest in these clay conditions at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters. I think that Dimitrov will edge it, especially as he trains here and knows these conditions a bit better than Basilashvili.
