He has a very risky style of tennis, and I don’t think that will help him here on the clay. Tiafoe loves low bouncing balls and playing aggressively, and coming up against Marcos Giron, a guy who will love the conditions a lot more, I expect Giron to take him down and move on at the Houston Open 2022.
Marcos Giron doesn’t have an easy one ahead of him in Frances Tiafoe at the Houston Open, but on the clay, I think he’ll be liking the matchup more. Even in Paris, an indoor hard court, Giron already took him out. I expect him to perform the same feat, but just because it’s clay doesn’t mean Tiafoe’s ballstriking ability will be taken away, I still expect him to hit some big balls and create plenty of problems as the two Americans go head to head for a place in the Round of 16 at the Houston Open 2022.
Frances Tiafoe and Marcos Giron have met once before this encounter at the Houston Open, with Marcos Giron leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came in Paris Bercy last season, with Giron winning in 3 sets. I expect a similar pattern here, Giron has been steadily improving his level and I think he’ll show that off here as he aims to take down a friend and move on to the last 16 at the Houston Open 2022.
