Will Nick Kyrgios get the win? Will Mackenzie McDonald pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have one of the most exciting players on tour taking on a guy who can pull quite a few upsets on his day. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 16 at the Houston Open 2022?
Nick Kyrgios has been playing some pretty great tennis as of late, obviously winning the Australian open in doubles and following it up with a pretty solid performance at the sunshine double, losing out to some very quality players. He now looks ahead to the clay, he won’t be playing the rest of the clay season, but he does know what he’s doing on the surface. Mackenzie McDonald won’t be easy, but McDonald really needs a quicker surface to thrive, I expect Kyrgios’ big serving and heavy forehand to propel him through to the Round of 16 at the Houston Open 2022.
Mackenzie McDonald has quite the match ahead of him as he aims to take down Nick Kyrgios. He will be a very tough opponent for him considering the tennis he’s played lately, especially since they’re on the clay. Kyrgios has gotten a win over Federer on the surface, taking a set off of Nadal as well. He can play anywhere, and I expect him to play that aggressive tennis we know him to execute time and time again as he aims to progress at the Houston Open 2022.
Nick Kyrgios and Mackenzie McDonald have met once before, with Mackenzie McDonald leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came last year at the Washington Open, with McDonald winning 6-4 6-4. To be completely fair, Kyrgios was in pretty awful form and McDonald had an exceptional tournament there, not to mention that this is clay, a surface where Kyrgios will be the clear favorite over someone like McDonald. While McDonald can upset the rhythm of the Aussie, I see this one as a clear win for Kyrgios as he aims to get a good start to his campaign at the Houston Open 2022.
