Will Jenson Brooksby get the win? Will J.J Wolf pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we’ll see how 2 big American prospects will perform on the clay. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 16 at the Houston Open 2022?
Jenson Brooksby has been playing some great tennis lately, and is the clear favorite coming into this one based on results. How will his game transition to the clay though? The short answer is not well. I don’t think he’ll have a fun time on the clay, we could compare his style with being bad for the surface as with Medvedev, and while Medvedev is of course able to adapt beyond that, clay is by far his worst surface for the flatter and more consistent style. Brooksby may be the top dog here, but he won’t have it easy at the Houston Open 2022.
J.J. Wolf played a great match against Tsitsipas in Miami, falling in 3 sets. He put on an excellent display of aggression and defensive tennis though, I think he has a clear shot at this one as he will be able to dictate with the forehand. I expect him to pull through this one, as Brooksby needs the help of the court to get through matches with his style, and while he would win on a hard court probably rather easily, on the clay it’ll be a much different story at the Houston Open 2022.
Jenson Brooksby and J.J. Wolf have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. In order for Brooksby to win, he’ll have to transition his game and take advantage of the clay in that he will be able to have more time on his strokes, moving Wolf around the court, and while both players have great defense, Brooksby isn’t a guy with weapons, I don’t see him winning this one as Wolf aims to pull off the upset and book a spot in the Round of 16 at the Houston Open 2022.
