Cristian Garin is looking to turn around some of his results, not doing too well as of late. He’s dropped out of the top 20, but coming up against Jack Sock he’ll hope to improve. Sock can play some amazing clay court tennis, and we’ve seen him play at a very high level recently, but Garin is a clay court specialist, so it’s a tough ask of the American as he aims to pull off quite the upset to book a place in the Round of 16 at the Houston Open 2022.
Jack Sock has played some great tennis recently, winning the doubles in Indian Wells and playing a great match in the singles against Tsitsipas, almost taking the win. He has a shot here for sure, with his very heavy forehand that he can rip with some time, I expect him to create quite a few problems. His backhand being on the lower side of the ATP Tour will also be good on the clay as he can take quite a bit of time. But Garin’s results cannot be argued with as the two clash for a place in the next round at the Houston Open 2022.
Cristian Garin and Jack Sock have met once before, with Jack Sock leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting is rather irrelevant, coming in 2017 at the Wimbledon Championships. Sock was still in great form at that point, while Garin was on the younger side and out of his element. It will be a tough one for both players, and while it wouldn’t be surprising of Sock pulled off the upset, I expect Garin to take this one and book a place in the last 16 at the Houston Open 2022.
