TennisSection previews the 2021 Davis Cup Finals as Alexander Bublik takes on Vasek Pospisil in the Round Robin stage on Sunday, November 28th, 2021.
Will Vasek Pospisil give Team Canada anything to be proud of here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals after a terrible opening day? Will Alexander Bublik put Team Kazakhstan in a strong place to make it to the Quarter-Finals? Both players know they can win at their best, but only one will show their country that they can be relied upon. Who will it be?
Vasek Pospisil and Team Canada had a terrible day at the office on the opening day of the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, losing all of their matches. Vasek did not show much confidence nor determination in his match against Mikael Ymer, really just letting himself be dominated and this is not what a Team No.1 should be doing. Because of that 0-3 scoreline, it is highly unlikely that they will have the confidence here, and they will know that it is going to be a very tough, practically impossible, road ahead if they want to make it to the Quarter-Finals, especially as Kazakhstan have some solid players like Alexander Bublik.
Alexander Bublik also met Mikael Ymer in his opening match, and unlike Vasek Pospisil, Bublik beat the Swede in quite comfortable fashion in the end. Alexander can put on some great performances when the chips are down and he is not afraid of getting into some tough rallies because he is always able to pull something out of the bag which makes us wonder how that was possible. With their 2-1 scoreline against Sweden, Alexander and Team Kazakhstan will know that they have a strong chance of making it to the Quarter-Finals, but they will not want to let someone like Vasek Pospisil cause the upset which might prevent them from achieving this.
Alexander Bublik and Vasek Pospisil have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. If this was 2019 or even 2020, I would have chosen Vasek Pospisil to win as he was still playing relatively well. However, with his abysmal form this year, his lack of motivation, and the fact that Bublik is very motivated, I expect a domination by the Kazakh here. Vasek will get nothing out of this match and by the time Alexander shows him his shots in his arsenal, Vasek will have lost his stamina and lost Team Canada any hopes of making it out of the group here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals.
