TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Roberto Bautista Agut (8) meets Miomir Kecmanovic in the Second Round on Wednesday June 30th, 2021.
Eighth seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut will face unseeded Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in the Second Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Both players have a similar result in the First Round, both dropping the second set en route to four set victories. RBA is a highly experienced player and will be hoping of a repeat of his 2019 Wimbledon performance where he reached the Semi-Finals. Can the young Serbian Kecmanovic stop him by causing the upset?
Roberto Bautista Agut is the eighth seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and is currently ranked #10 on the ATP Tour. The Spaniard has built a reputation of being one of the hardest workers on the tour, and is a very consistent performer. While he considers grass his least favorite surface, the Spaniard does have one title on grass and his attitude and powerful flat groundstrokes make him a strong opponent regardless of the surface. RBA also reached the Semis the last time this event was held back in 2019 and will be confident on these familiar courts. He was made to work by familiar foe John Millman in the First Round, winning in four very close sets. RBA will know that he will have to be much improved if he is to make another deep run here at Wimbledon, and enters as the favorite here against Miomir Kecmanovic.
Miomir Kecmanovic is currently ranked #49 in the ATP world rankings and is unseeded here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The Serb has been in poor form over the past month, losing in the First Round in four of his last five tournaments entered. However, he played well during his loss to Ugo Humbert in Mallorca on the grass, taking the eventual champion to three sets in a strong performance. Kecmanovic has never performed well on grass and considers it his least favorite surface, and will have to produce the match of his life if he is to upset former Semi-Finalist Roberto Bautista Agut here in the Second Round. He is an extremely talented player and is one to watch for the future, but he is the big underdog here and not expected to advance.
This will be the third meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with the Spaniard leading the head to head 2-0. They last played each other at the 2020 US Open, where RBA won in four tight sets. Miomir Kecmanovic is a very solid player but I don’t see him getting the win here. While Roberto Bautista Agut is not fully comfortable on grass, he still has a very impressive grass court resume including a title and a Wimbledon Semi-Final. He moves better on this surface and I expect that to be the difference here in this match, Roberto Bautista Agut will win here, advancing to the Third Round at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
