TennisSection previews the Miami Open 2022 as Alexander Zverev takes on Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 30th, 2022.
Will Alexander Zverev mark his return to World No.3 with a win? Will Casper Ruud come out here and shock him by playing his aggressive baseline tennis? Both players are fun to watch and will put on a show here at the Miami Open. However, only one will make it to the semifinals. Who will it be?
Casper Ruud dominated against the Brit Cameron Norrie, beating him in straight sets 6-3/6-4. Cameron Norrie was playing well on both his first and second serve, but Ruud was able to dominate on his first serve which then gave him more freedom to play freely in his return games. Ruud is determined to improve his game in 2022 and prove he was not just a one season wonder. This run at the 2022 Miami Open is proving just that, but I am sure he wants to beat Alexander Zverev and get closer to the biggest title of his career.
Alexander Zverev played a very solid match in the fourth round, beating the always tough Thanasi Kokkinakis, in straight sets 6-4/6-4. Zverev was dominant on both his first and second serve and he was able to not give Thanasi any break point chances. Zverev is now back to World No.3 and he will be glad to have gotten that ranking back. However, if he wants to maintain it, the more points the merrier. Will the German be able to be even better as he now meets a tougher opponent in Casper Ruud at the Miami Open?
Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud have met 2 times before, with Alexander Zverev leading the head to head 2-0. They met both times in the quarterfinals of Masters 1000 last year. Alexander won both matches in straight sets and he was able to dominate most of the matches. Zverev is a great player and he has brought out his best game at times in Masters 1000. However, Ruud is not to be underestimated, especially after how he has played this week at the Miami Open. I still think the serve of Zverev will prove to be the difference, but it will be tighter than prior matches.
